EMDR Therapy

EMDR Therapy

EMDR therapy a well researched therapy that helps the brain and body work through memories that feel stuck. When something overwhelming happens, it can get stored in a way that still feels raw, as if it’s happening now. EMDR uses gentle back and forth movement, like following eye movements, alternating taps, or sounds, while you briefly bring a memory to mind. This helps your system process what happened so it can settle into the past where it belongs. You’ll still remember the experience, but it tends to lose its emotional charge and stop pulling you back into old reactions.

How It Works

When we’re overwhelmed, the brain can’t fully file an experience away, so it stays active and easily triggered. EMDR works with your brain’s natural ability to heal. While you hold a piece of a memory in mind, the back and forth movement engages both sides of your brain, a bit like what happens during deep sleep. This helps the memory connect with what you know now, that you survived and that it’s over. As it processes, thoughts, feelings, and body sensations often shift on their own, and what once felt heavy can start to feel more distant and manageable.

What It’s Not

EMDR isn’t hypnosis, and you won’t lose control or be pushed into anything. You stay awake and aware the whole time, and you can pause or stop whenever you need to. You also don’t have to describe every detail of what happened out loud. Much of the processing happens internally, and you share only what feels right.

What The Process Looks Like

We don’t start with the hardest memories. First, we get to know your history and what you’re hoping for, then spend time building resources that help you feel grounded and steady. This preparation might take a few sessions or longer, depending on what your system needs. Once you feel ready, we begin processing in short sets of back and forth movement, pausing between each to notice what’s coming up. Every session closes with time to settle, so you leave feeling contained. As we go, we check in on what has shifted and choose together what to focus on next.

    IN-PERSON
Our standard session for ongoing therapy.

The standard session length, and the space where most of our work together will happen. 60 minutes offers a steady container for the ongoing work of therapy, whether that's talking through what's present for you this week, working with a part that's come forward, or moving into somatic and experiential work as it arises.

  • Extended Sessions — 90 Minutes | $240

    IN-PERSON / VIRTUAL
    For reprocessing and deeper processing.

These longer sessions are set aside for reprocessing work, including EMDR and somatic reprocessing. This kind of work needs time to settle in, move through what comes up, and return to steady ground before we close. Ninety minutes gives us room to do that without rushing.

All sessions, including extended ones, are also available virtually, so you can access support from wherever you are. Whether we're working together in person or online, the same care and pacing apply, and virtual sessions are just as suited to somatic and experiential work as in person ones.

Virtual sessions are offered in both the standard 60 minute length and the extended 75 minute option, so you can choose whichever fits what you need for that particular session.
